NBC has leaked another blind audition from Season 12 of "The Voice." Monday’s episode of the singing competition will feature a performance by R&B singer Kawan Debose that fans can watch now by using the media player included with this article.
Debose comes to "The Voice" with his cover of "Let’s Get It On", which makes him the second artist in Season 12 to audition with a Marvin Gaye song. In last week’s season premiere, JChosen (whose audition was also leaked by the network ahead of time) performed Gaye’s "Sexual Healing" and earned himself a spot on Gwen Stefani’s team.
Unlike his predecessor, Debose does not turn all four coaches’ chairs. He impresses Stefani, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton but Alicia Keys does not push her button for him (though based on the video clip she wishes she would have). The leaked audition doesn’t show which one of the three available coaches Debose chooses to work with but there are possibilities with all three.
He could join JChosen on Team Gwen and give Stefani another solid R&B performer. Right now her team is evenly split between female pop singers (Stephanie Rice and Savannah Leighton) and R&B/reggae artists (JChosen and Brandon Royal). Or Debose could elect to punch his membership card for Team Adam and continue to build Levine’s so far all-male lineup. Conversely, if he somehow decides to choose Team Blake, he would be the first male singer on Shelton’s roster.
All four teams are neck and neck going into Monday’s two-hour blind auditions episode. Team Alicia and Team Blake have each chosen five of their twelve competitors while Team Adam and Team Gwen are just a step behind with four spots filled. So whichever team Kawan Debose ends up on he’ll have a pretty even shot at advancing further on "The Voice."
Debose will become the sixth artist to have turned three coaches’ chairs. Season 12 has televised 23 blind auditions over three episodes so far, and only five singers have failed to make it onto the show. Will that overwhemingly positive streak continue as the season moves into its second week? You’ll have to watch the full next episode on Monday night to find out.
"The Voice" airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
